Prenatal Partners

Pregnancy and childbirth can be a major medical expense - especially considering that many pre-term labors, c-sections and low birth weights, which are accompanied by higher costs, are preventable. Through Prenatal Partners, DAKOTACARE provides educational materials and forums while initiating regular interaction between nurses and expecting parents to improve the probability of normal births and healthier babies. As a result, pregnancy risks and claims costs are reduced.

How the Prenatal Partners Program Works:

  1. Prenatal Partners provides a comprehensive Risk Assessment for each expectant mother enrolled in the program to identify potentially high-risk pregnancies.
  2. Nurses work with expectant mothers and their physicians to provide information on how to reduce risk in pregnancy, and to plan for early intervention in response to the identified risks.
  3. Prenatal and birth educational materials are provided to expectant mothers early in their pregnancy.
  4. Nurses work closely and regularly with expectant mothers throughout their pregnancy:
    • make and receive calls to discuss concerns and prenatal health;
    • update the risk assessment regularly;
    • contact for a check-up meeting at the beginning of each trimester;
    • assure that expectant mothers receive appropriate medical care.
  5. If you are an expecting parent, you can receive informative pregnancy text messages on your cell phone! These messages focus on a variety of topics critical to healthy pregnancy, tips on child safety, nutrition, seasonal flu, mental health, oral health, safe sleep, growth and development. This information will help you care for your health and give your baby the best possible start in life.

    Text4baby is a free mobile information service to promote maternal and child health. It is offered to you at no cost from DAKOTACARE through a partnership with the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition.

    You may sign up for the services by texting BABY to 511411 (or BEBE in Spanish) or sign up on their website.  You will receive free, weekly text messages, timed to your due date or baby's date of birth. You will not be charged for the text messages you receive through text4baby.

By identifying the pregnancy needs of your organization and helping you implement the Prenatal Partners program, we can significantly reduce claims costs and assist your employees in improving their individual health.
